McFarlin Cutting Horses

My name is Johnny Griffin. I’m a lifelong cowboy and team roper. My sons, John and Michael, and myself have had several horses in training with John Mcfarlin over the past two years. John Mcfarlin is a horseman. Cutting is a very specialized horse activity and Mcfarlin runs his program in a very professional and specific manner. He has an innate ability to feel when a horse is out of position and feel whether the horse is out of position because it doesn’t know the correct position, doesn’t want to get in the proper position or has a soreness keeping it from getting in the correct position. Mcfarlin will correct a horse immediately if needed, but I have never seen him punish or strike a horse excessively. Our four-year old gelding is just now getting ready to show. I believe many trainers would have given up on him as a three-year-old, but John’s patience and persistence has built a nice cutter and a really nice horse. One other horse of ours showed pretty quickly he didn’t want to be a cutting horse, but Mcfarlin’s handling and consistency created a nice using horse. After a two-month conversion to the roping pen we won a check on that gelding in his first competition. I was fortunate enough to assist Mcfarlin daily in his operation for about a year and can attest he can also teach people to ride and to cut. He has taken the time to explain not only what position and movement he is looking for, but how the training process builds the blocks to reach that position and movement. He has greatly increased the horsemanship ability in me and my sons. John Mcfarlin is a horseman. He has a solid program and above all, takes care of your horse.
